Sherryl A. Gordon was elected Executive Director of New Jersey
Legislative Council # 1 of the American Federation of State,
County and Municipal Employees at their Annual Convention
in May 1992. Prior to that, Ms. Gordon served as Associate
Director for nine years at Council 1 and a member of the office
staff since December 1975.
As Executive
Director, Ms. Gordon has the daily responsibility of interacting
with officials of state government on behalf of the locals
and councils in AFSCME, as well as giving directions to the
Union’s political and legislative programs. Her duties are
widespread but not limited to negotiating the contract between
the State of New Jersey and the 9,000 State Employees who
are members of the American Federation of State, County and
Municipal Employees (AFSCME). In addition to Ms. Gordon’s
union activities, listed below are a few of her accomplishments
which includes both labor and community issues:
- Elected
by the Governor to serve as co-chair to the Governor’s Transition
Team
- Elected
as International Vice President of the Eastern Region of
the AFSCME International Union.
- President
Emeritus of the Central/Northern N.J. Chapter of the Coalition
of Black Trade Unionists
- Registered
lobbyist for the American Federation of State, County &
Municipal Employees.
